I 100% agree with shasha : labeling products like this is just like when you see "Professionnal" which generally means that this product is used by anybody except the real pros  I probably use them too loud most of the time, but I think that they are fantastic cans. They're a bit on the tight side and can hit you like a freight train if you aren't careful though. If you come across a set of headphones that react like that I'd jump on them in a heart beat.įor me I prefer the Sennheiser HD-25-1's. If you can get around a set of those and give them a quick listen that is what I think that monitors should sound like. And of course I want something that isn't going to create ear fatigue.įor my money the best example of any kind of monitor system I've heard that's not in the ridiculous price range is the Yamaha HS80M's. I also want something that isn't boomy or mushy and I want the bass to be present, but not thudding. Doesn't mean that they'll sound better to you they'll just be more true to the original source.Ī good test that I use for anything that's going to be used as a monitor is to see if I can pick out each instrument without having to really try. I'm thinking that if they sounded really mid heavy to you they may have actually been accurately reproducing the sound. We've gotten used to speakers that accentuate certain frequencies and while it may sound nicer to us it isn't an accurate representation. The problem with good monitors is that they aren't always the most pleasant to listen to for straight up musical entertainment. Studio monitor headphones should in theory be just like a good studio monitor speaker set flat, even and no colorization to the sound with a good frequency response.
